Ford Power Stroke Repair and Service in Cypress, TX

Skeeter's Auto Service repairs Ford Power Stroke diesels for Super Duty and F-Series owners across Cypress and Northwest Houston from our shop at 12133 Old Huffmeister Rd, Cypress, TX 77429. From the 7.3L that will not start on a cool morning to a 6.7L throwing a DEF fault on the way to a job, our diesel technicians see Power Strokes every day and have the bay space and lift capacity to take trucks up to an F-550.

We have been fixing trucks in this part of Harris County since 1992. Every Power Stroke repair is covered by our 36-month / 36,000-mile nationwide warranty, and every job starts with a diagnosis and a written estimate rather than a parts list.

Signs Your Power Stroke Needs a Shop

  • Hard starting or long crank, especially the first start of the day
  • Rough idle, stumble, or a miss that comes and goes with temperature
  • Loss of power under a trailer, or a turbo that spools late or surges
  • Black smoke under load, white smoke at idle, or blue smoke at start-up
  • Coolant loss with no visible leak, or coolant in the degas bottle that looks like oil
  • Oil level rising between changes, a sign of fuel dilution on a 6.4L
  • Check engine light, glow plug light, or a DEF, DPF, or "exhaust filter" message
  • A fuel economy drop or a knock you did not have last month

Call 281-469-1152 or book online. If the truck is not safe to drive, 24/7 towing is available to bring it in.

Power Stroke Generations We Service

Each Power Stroke has its own set of known weaknesses. Knowing which truck you have tells us where to look first:

  • 7.3L Power Stroke (1994 to 2003). The engine that built the reputation. Typical work: high-pressure oil pump (HPOP) and injector O-rings, camshaft position sensor, under-valve-cover harness, glow plug relay, and turbo pedestal leaks. With care these routinely pass 300,000 miles.
  • 6.0L Power Stroke (2003 to 2007). The generation with the most to know. Typical work: EGR cooler and oil cooler replacement, head gaskets with upgraded studs, FICM (fuel injection control module) repair, STC fitting and HPOP updates, and injector stiction. We test the oil cooler and EGR cooler before recommending head gaskets, because half of the "blown head gasket" 6.0Ls we see are something smaller.
  • 6.4L Power Stroke (2008 to 2010). Strong output, demanding emissions system. Typical work: DPF and regeneration faults, fuel dilution of the engine oil, radiator and cooling upgrades, high-pressure fuel pump service, and up-pipe leaks.
  • 6.7L Power Stroke (2011 to present). A modern engine with a modern emissions system. Typical work: CP4 high-pressure fuel pump failures and fuel system cleanup on 2011 to 2019 trucks, EGT and NOx sensor faults, DEF heater and DEF quality codes, turbo actuator faults on early trucks, glow plugs, and DPF regeneration problems on trucks that see mostly short trips.

Whether it is a 2001 7.3L or a new 6.7L High Output, the model year and the engine are enough for us to know where to start.

How We Diagnose a Power Stroke

  • Full scan of the powertrain and emissions modules with diesel-capable equipment, including stored, pending, and history codes
  • Live data review: fuel rail or injection control pressure, injector balance rates, boost and VGT position, EGT, and regeneration history
  • Fuel system tests: lift pump and high-pressure pump output, fuel filter condition, water separation, and, on CP4 trucks, checks for metal in the fuel system
  • Cooling system pressure test, oil cooler efficiency check, and EGR cooler inspection on the 6.0L and 6.4L
  • Glow plug, glow plug relay, and starting circuit tests for cold-start complaints
  • Emissions system review: DPF soot load, DEF quality and dosing, and sensor health

You get the findings and a written estimate before any repair starts. See our diagnostics page for how we handle warning lights across the shop.

Power Stroke Maintenance That Prevents the Big Repairs

Most expensive Power Stroke failures announce themselves months ahead in the fuel filter, the oil, and the coolant. Our maintenance plan for a Power Stroke in Cypress is set to how the truck is used, not to a generic chart:

  • Fuel filter and water separator service on schedule, sooner for trucks that tow or fuel at many stations
  • Oil and filter changes with the correct diesel-rated oil, and oil level monitoring on 6.4L trucks
  • Coolant condition testing; the wrong coolant or old coolant is what takes out 6.0L oil coolers
  • Glow plug and battery testing before the first cold snap
  • Emissions system health checks so a DPF problem is caught before a limp-mode drive home

Performance, Towing, and Fleet

If your Super Duty tows a fifth wheel or works a job site every day, we can help with turbocharger upgrades, high-flow exhaust systems, injector upgrades, and ECU tuning built around the load you actually pull, and we will tell you plainly when a modification is not worth it for the way you drive. For work trucks and fleets we offer diesel service capacity up to F-550, priority scheduling, secure after-hours key drop and pick-up, per-unit service records, and a fleet charge account through CB Charge.

Diesel Service Beyond the Engine

A Power Stroke truck is a whole vehicle, and the parts around the engine wear faster on a truck that tows. On the same visit we handle brakes sized for towing, alignment for lifted and loaded trucks, AC for Cypress summers, transmission and transfer case fluid service, and steering and suspension wear from the extra weight up front. Our diesel repair page covers everything we do for diesel trucks, and fleet accounts can put every unit on one schedule.

Power Stroke Repair FAQs

Do you work on the older 7.3L Power Stroke?
Yes. We service every generation, from the 7.3L through the 6.0L, 6.4L, and current 6.7L, and the 7.3L is still one of the most common trucks in our bays.

My 6.0L is losing coolant. Is it the head gaskets?
Not always. On a 6.0L, coolant loss is just as often the EGR cooler or a restricted oil cooler, and both are cheaper than head gaskets. We test the oil cooler and pressure-test the cooling system before recommending head work.

What is the CP4 problem on the 6.7L?
The 2011 to 2019 6.7L uses a CP4 high-pressure fuel pump that can fail and send metal through the fuel system. If your truck is losing power or stalling, we check the fuel system for contamination before anything else, because a pump replacement without a cleanup will fail again.

My truck says "exhaust filter full" or keeps regenerating. Can you fix that?
Yes. We diagnose and repair DPF, DEF, and EGR faults in-house, including forced regenerations, DEF quality and heater problems, and sensor replacement.

How often should the fuel filters be changed on a Power Stroke?
Most trucks are due every 10,000 to 15,000 miles, and sooner if you tow or fuel at a lot of different stations. It is the cheapest insurance on the injectors.

Do you handle fleet Power Stroke trucks?
Yes, up to F-550, with priority scheduling, per-unit records, after-hours drop-off and pick-up, and a fleet charge account.

Is the repair covered by a warranty?
Yes. Repairs at Skeeter's Auto Service carry a 36-month / 36,000-mile nationwide warranty.

Is there a Power Stroke repair shop near me in Cypress that does more than the engine?
Yes. Brakes, alignment, AC, transmission service, and suspension on the same visit, so the truck is in the shop once.
